So I met this Aussie lawyer on the streets of Dublin.
I asked her one question: where do you sit right now?
Worker or owner?
One answer stuck with me. A young lawyer said she’s a worker, and she wants to be partner. Fair. Partner is the next rung up. But partner in someone else’s firm is still the same ladder, just a higher step. Then she caught himself: partner, then maybe own her work.
That’s the shift. Most careers are built to keep you climbing. Very few are built to make you own something. The question isn’t “how do I get promoted?” It’s “what am I building that’s mine?”
Learn. Earn. Own.
